Black Voices at the Met
Our exhibition chronicled the extensive contributions made by African American artists at the Met and the decades-long struggle for racial equality at the nation’s leading opera company—in connection with the 2019 new production of the Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. The design used color to guide the viewer through the comprehensive history, as well as large pull quotes to highlight key moments. In February 2021, we launched a digital version of the exhibition to celebrate Black History Month. In addition to our colleagues in the Met Archives, we collaborated with content curators Maurice Wheeler and Carolyn Guzskin, and curator / design consultant Jessica Bell Brown.
