Behind the Seams: Costuming the Met
This exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the Met’s costumes and costume creation from the late 19th century to the present day. The physical garments on display in the North Gallery, once worn by legendary artists, evoke the glamour, mystical power, and royal splendor of opera. Accompanied by the archival photographs, costume sketches, and behind-the-scenes imagery in the South Gallery, the costumes tell the story of how imagination, artistry, and technical mastery come together on the Met stage. Created in collaboration with Archives, Construction and Electrical.
